Painkillers vs. Acupuncture: Who Wins?

//Painkillers vs. Acupuncture: Who Wins?

How many times have you visited your doctor for an issue, only to be prescribed pills and sent away? This becomes a vicious circle without any recognition of the real problem at hand. While painkillers can provide temporary relief, they can’t solve the root problem of your health issue. This is exactly why acupuncture is becoming more popular as an alternative pain management therapy.

A new study published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine actually proves that acupuncture is a more powerful pain reliever than morphine. Such stunning results have the potential to help patients rethink their reliance on pharmaceuticals.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese tradition that uses super-fine needles gentle applied to certain points on the body. These points aren’t chosen haphazardly, but rather selected for their ability to activate the body’s own self-healing mechanisms. This means that acupuncture can treat back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, chronic headaches, shoulder pain, and more.

The Proof that It Works
The researchers who released their study in July found that of the 150 emergency departments who treated their patients for pain strictly with acupuncture, a whopping 92 percent experienced pain reduction. That was compared to a lower 78 percent pain reduction for the 150 emergency departments who only used morphine for treatment. The acupuncture group even recovered from their pain an average of 12 minutes faster than the morphine group.

Uses of Acupuncture
The list of conditions proven to respond to acupuncture continues to grow longer as scientific studies prove the impressive power of acupuncture. Nausea, dental pain, fibromyalgia, headaches, migraines, lower back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis, addiction, chemotherapy nausea, depression, and menstrual cramps are just a few of the physical conditions that acupuncture can alleviate.
